Ever heard of the Rosé Revolution? Rosé wines started gaining popularity, especially during the lockdowns – but did you know that it has actually gone through this so-called renaissance on multiple occasions and is a style of wine originating thousands of years ago?

Author Katherine Cole writes in her book Rosé All Day: The Essential Guide to Your New Favorite Wine, about the story of Kaldi, a goatherd from the Ethiopian Highlands who had grown curious of the berries his goats were eating. Upon trying them for himself and biting into the seeds, he got a taste of something bitter and exhilarating – and it was none other than a coffee bean.

It’s with this same logic that our early ancestors observed birds eating rowanberries which made them drunken, inspiring them to try for themselves. There are recipes dating back on how to produce rowanberry wine, which so happens to be the color of a rosé. With this in mind it could have been the first rosé and berry wine!

Although, it was traditionally produced from red varieties that were deemed to be inadequate and not good enough for red wines – nowadays producers seek to specifically produce rosé, with many producers trying to emulate the popular styles from Provence and Languedoc.

But this Rosé Revolution is also giving rise to new ways of doing things and producers are starting to add their own twists. Just have a look at one of our newest additions from Enoz, a Primitivo Rosato!

Not only has the production revolutionized, but also the widespread consumption of it as well. It is a wine that everyone can enjoy because of its versatility. And when we say everyone, we mean everyone. From well-known celebrities with some of their own brands, like Jon Bon Jovi, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, John Legend, Drew Barrymore, Post Malone and Rick Ross; to your next-door neighbor. There is no shortage of fans.

So what are you waiting for? Join the revolution and pick your pink!
